The work of Eckhart Tolle

I have write a detailed diagnosis of that epidemic cognitive affliction called 'ego' in this Information Systems Analysis of Organisation, Ego, Control and Fascism. However Eckhart Tolle has also written a brilliant book on other aspects of this subject. Below I will eventually provide some informative quotes and comments regarding his latest book "A New Earth: Awakening to your life's purpose".

I have read two of Eckhart Tolles' books, both of which I would highly recommend. Each one is well focused on a particular aspect of the experience of reality and provides broad, detailed and accessible insights into them. The books "The Power of Now" and "A New Earth" are detailed and accessible discussions of many of the same issues that are raised on this website. However he takes a very different approach, he doesn't so much discuss the ontological nature of reality but rather he discusses the personal experience of reality, base on a deep understanding of its ontological nature.

The Power of Now,
A New Earth.

The Power of Now

The book "The Power of Now" explores the nature of existence, not as a story that is smeared throughout time, but as a dynamical process that is happening. The main point is that right Now is the only time that actually exists. This is a ramification of the fact that the foundation of reality is like a discrete iterative finite state automata, as described by SMN. By living through a story one is living through a shallow mechanistic paradigm but by living in the present one has intimate access to the computational process that underlies the whole of reality and then one is truly Alive.

A New Earth

The book ("A New Earth: Awakening to your life's purpose", Eckhart Tolle, Penguin, 2005) explores the nature of the ego itself and how it weaves its illusory world and thus excludes us from being present and fully aware. It is a detailed analysis of the nature of the ego, its strategies, its agenda, its ontological nature which is as an illusion of the mind, also of the state of egolessness, what are its benefits and how does one overcome the oppression of the ego to attain it. Many of these issues I touch upon in places throughout my writing but Tolle has brought together a comprehensive and systematic discussion on this matter. Hence I would highly recommend reading this book, both for understanding the nature of reality and for awakening to one's true Self.

From the back cover:
When faced with radical crisis, when the old way of being in the world, of interacting with each other and with the realm of nature doesn't work any more, when survival is threatened by seemingly insurmountable problems, an individual human - or species - will either die or become extinct or rise above the limitations of their condition through an evolutionary leap. This is the state of humanity now, and this is its challenge.
